Detroit area property tax rates, 2025

Rates for the 84 cities, towns and townships with at least 10,000 residents in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne counties. A place here can have several rates, because school and tax district lines don't follow city limits; each is shown by its main rate, with the range.

The 48 smaller places are on their county pages: Macomb County, Oakland County, Wayne County. The main rate is the rate in the school district that shares the place's name, or where there isn't one, the middle one of its published rates (the lower of the two middle ones when there's an even number).

Reading these rates

Michigan publishes a total millage for each city, village or township and school district. The homestead rate shown here leaves out up to 18 mills of school operating tax, which a principal residence is exempt from; each place's page also shows the higher non-homestead rate. Rates are applied to taxable value, which can rise by no more than 5% or inflation each year until a home sells.
